CARTRIDGE HEATER

Points to be observe when using cartridge heaters

  1. for cartridge heaters with surface loads up to 20W/cm the receiving hole must be drilled with small tolerance and a sliding fit is necessary.

  2. the drilled recieving bores for cartridge heaters must be cylindrical, crossing bores and shringkages cause a localisation of heat and shorgen the useful life of the heating elements.

  3. the end of the cartridge heater with the connection lead should be protected against liquid and pasty media (lubricants, oil, synthetic materials, etc) because otherwise leakage currents and, possibly flashover could occur at the outlet connection terminals.

  4. the connection leads should be protected against mechanical vibrations close to the outlet of the cartridge heater.

  5. if possible, control of the operating temperature shoud be realised by means of continuous regulators, by controllers with pulse widht modulation or electronic power control device. a control system with long timelag often causes thermal overload of the heating elements. for this reason also the temperature sensor must be fitted in close proximity to the cartridge heater about 10mm apart.

  6. when using several cartridge heaters the distance between two consecutive cartridge shoudl be at least equal to the cartridge diameter.

  7. if heating elements are to be stored for long periods they should be housed in absolutely dry roms or enclosed in plastic bags which are hermetialy sealed.
